The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has been providing protective services for children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or abandonment since 1986. DCFS has a comprehensive system of services aimed to address and reduce incidents of child abuse. On average, DCFS receives over 157,000 child abuse referrals per year.
The Department of Children and Family Services will, with our community partners, provide a comprehensive child protection system of prevention, preservation, and permanency to ensure that children grow up safe, physically and emotionally healthy, educated and in permanent homes.
The DCFS provides the following services for children: Crisis Intervention, Emergency Shelter Care, Out of Home Care, Community Based Support, Education and Mentoring, Mental Health Assessment and Treatment Plan, Transitional Housing, Independent Living Program, Rites of Passage, Special Immigrant Status Program.
