The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administering and enforcing some of our nation's most comprehensive labor laws, including: minimum wage, overtime, and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); the Family and Medial Leave Act (FLMA); the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection (MSPA); worker protections provided in several temporary visa programs; and the prevailing wage requirements of the Davis-Bacon Act (DBA) and the Service Contract Act (SCA).
The mission of the Wage and Hour Division is to enhance the welfare and protect the rights of the nation's workers through the enforcement of the Federal labor laws.
The WHD is fully committed to protecting the rights of all workers. It maintains active membership in dozens of trafficking taskforces throughout the country. Each of the agency's five regions has a trafficking coordinator who ensures coordinated efforts to address the rights of trafficking victims. The agency believes that obtaining the legally required wages of victims is a key component in bringing consequences to labor traffickers and in bringing restitution to those who have been victimized.
