Polaris Project was founded on February 14, 2002, after Katherine Chon and Derek Ellerman read about a trafficking case in their community and decided to take action. Founded in the spirit of the Underground Railroad, Polaris Project brings together community members, survivors, leaders, and local groups to end human trafficking and modern-day slavery in their own communities. Polaris Project has since grown into one of the largest anti-trafficking grassroots organization with offices and chapters present across the nation and in Tokyo, Japan. Polaris Project Los Angeles was established in February 2006.
Polaris Project Los Angeles is committed to combating human trafficking and modern-day slavery in Los Angeles and southern California, using a comprehensive approach to empower individual survivors of trafficking and create long-term social change.
