Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) began as a law school clinic at the University of Southern California in 1929. It later received money from the Community Chest and was incorporated in 1937. For more than 75 years, the LAFLA has been the first place that thousands of poor people in Los Angeles County turn to when faced with a crisis that threatens their shelter, health, or livelihood. In 2006, LAFLA provided direct legal assistance to 14,356 low-income clients and aided thousands more through referrals, distribution of brochures and self-help materials, as well as community outreach and education. LAFLA's culturally diverse staff of poverty law specialists provide assistance in housing, Government benefits, Family Law, Immigrants' Rights, Employment, Consumer Law, Community Economic Development, and Asian/Pacific Islander Outreach.

Our offices are located in the neighborhoods where our clients live and work: East Los Angeles, Korea Town, Pico-Union, Santa Monica, South Central, and Long Beach. We conduct law clinics in courthouses, churches, housing projects, and senior centers to increase client access to vital services.
